Two dead, two others overdosed on narcotics last weekend in Lincoln

On Friday, July 26th, Lincoln Police were called to a hotel near the airport on a report of a 21 year old woman overdosing on narcotics. The woman, Leah Johnson of Lincoln later died at the hospital.

On Saturday, July 27th, just before 4 p.m. Lincoln Police were sent to a hotel near 8th and R Street on a report of two unconscious men. The first officer began CPR on 49 year old Craig Haynes of Lincoln while he was assisted by a bystander who performed CPR on a 26 year old man Lincoln Fire and Rescue arrived and continued with life-saving efforts on Haynes who was pronounced dead at 4:30. Narcan was used on the 26 year old man who was hospitalized and is expected to recover.

Nebraska Department of Corrections report that Haynes was employed at the hotel as part of his work release program.

On July 27th, and 11:28 p.m., Lincoln Police were sent to a home near 14th and B on a report of a 49 year old woman who had overdosed on narcotics. CPR and Narcan were both administered and she regained consciousness. She was taken to a hospital and is expected to recover.

The investigation leading into the events and the deaths continue. Initial reports show that the death of Johnson, Haynes and the hospitalization of the second male resulted in an overdose of illegal narcotics.

Lincoln Police remind citizens that the use of illegal drugs is a risky action. Those ingesting the drugs don’t know what the substance is or if it is mixed with another chemical.
