Iowa Teen Arrested After High Speed Chase Near Kearney

An Iowa teenager is in custody, accused of leading Nebraska State Patrol troopers on a high speed chase on I-80 near Kearney Wednesday evening.

The patrol says around 5:40 p.m. a trooper spotted a Ford 500 sedan traveling westbound at more than 100 miles per hour on Interstate 80. The trooper attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled and the trooper gave chase.

During the pursuit, troopers say the kid reached speeds of up to 115 miles per hour and passed other vehicles on the shoulder. A witness called 911 to report the teen driver got off of I-80 at the Archway exit, and drove into a pond near Archway Road. The witness told police dispatch the driver got out and took off on foot.

About 10 minutes later, a trooper says he found and arrested the 17-year-old boy. Investigators say the four-door car was stolen from Sioux City, Iowa earlier this week.

The boy was taken to the Madison County Juvenile Detention Center.
