Take a look at the first trailer for the Harriet Tubman biopic, Harriet. Cynthia Erivo plays the iconic star. Erivo has a Broadway background, and was in last year's excellent (and underappreciated) Widows. The movie will tell the story of Tubman and the Underground Railroad. The movie is directed by Kasi Lemmons. A name I wasn't familiar with until I looked her up. She was in the 1992 horror flick, Candyman. And is likely best known as the best friend of Clarice Starling in Silence of the Lambs.
Erivo looks like a sure fire candidate for a Best Actress Oscar nomination. Time will tell if anyone else involved with the making of this film receives accolades.
Harriet hits theaters November 1st.
