Two Injured In Omaha Apartment Fire

Two people were injured early Monday morning in an apartment fire in the Benson area. Fire crews were called to the St. James Manor apartments just after midnight.

They were able to get the fire extinguished within minutes. During a search of the building, firefighters found a woman in a back bedroom of the apartment where the fire started. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

A second woman was pulled from an apartment above the fire and also taken to the hospital. There was heavy smoke and heat damage in the apartment where the fire started. The rest of the building had smoke and/or water damage.

Investigators say the fire was caused by food being left burning on the stove. Damage is estimated at $25,000. The Red Cross is now helping residents who were displaced.
