Movie Trailer: The King's Man

2015 gave us Kingsman: The Secret Service. A surprise hit starring Taron Egerton as a pauper turned secret agent. It was an extreme James Bond, more or less. Comically violent and edgy in way Bond could never be, while still maintaining the pillars of a spy movie. Gadgets, girls, and action.

Then came the sequel in 2017 which (like most sequels) saw more of everything. To somewhat mixed reviews. Now we have our first look at the prequel The King's Man. I have SEVERAL questions about this film. I'm aware it's a look at how the spy agency known as The Kingsman got their name, it's their origin story. But...did we need this? Isn't part of a spy movie the fun high-tech gadgets? This FEELS like a way to shoehorn your franchise into a Game of Thrones style world and milk that fan base for dollars?

That said, the third chapter in The Kingsman series is slated to be released soon as well, and I'm more excited about that movie than this movie. It looks fine, just unnecessary. Don't even get me started on the spinoff franchise, Statesman. The less said about that the better, I think.

The King's Man hits theaters in February of next year.
