Former Omaha coach accused sexually assaulting 14 year old girl

OMAHA, Nebraska - A former basketball coach at Marian High School is charged with felony first-degree sexual assault on a child.

Investigators say 33-year-old Andrea Knecht made hundreds of phone calls to a 14-year-old girl in 2013, when Knecht was a part time coach at Marian.

On July 3 Knecht pleaded not guilty to the charge filed by the Douglas County Attorney. The additional details are found in court documents dated July 12.

An Omaha Police report dated June 26 states during a March 19 interview with the victim, phone records depicted several hundred calls between the victim and Knecht, who was 27 years old at the time the girl says she was sexually assaulted by Knecht.

Marian High School issued a statement saying the former student posted on social media in January that Knecht had sexually assaulted her in 2013, and that the school reported the information to the authorities. The school says its records do not indicate any report.

The school cannot comment on the student, but says any reports of sexual misconduct are reported to authorities immediately, according to the statement.
