Arrest Made In Injury Hit-And-Run

Two people crossing the street at 24th and California are recovering after being hit by a vehicle around 8:34 Friday morning.

Omaha Police say a white Buick was southbound on 24th and ran a red light. That vehicle struck 65 year old Janet Paulson and 47 year old Jose Lucero. Paulson suffered an arm injury, broken ribs and a head injury. Lucero suffered a dislocated shoulder.

Two veteran UPB officers remembered having recent contact with a party driving a similar vehicle. A 1998 white Buick sedan was located near 47th and Nicholas by officers. Around the same time, a 911 caller reported that the suspect in the accident was coming into work near 29th and T Street.

Officers located 32 year old Alverez Payton who was taken in for questioning. Payton was then booked for leaving the scene of a personal injury crash, driving during suspension, no proof of insurance, no vehicle registration and violation of a traffic signal.
