The city of Omaha has finished installing more than 100 new LED lights and cameras on the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge.
City officials say the new light on the bridge will be red, white and blue for the Fourth of July. The original lights installed ten years ago have now been replaced. The new lights are more energy efficient and lower cost.
The city also added more lights that shine on the bridge's cables and pylons to better illuminate the bridge and plaza on Riverfront Drive.
A sophisticated computer program has the capability to choreograph the bridge lights in all colors and add motion.
The Parks Department also placed more cameras across the bridge to help them monitor weather conditions in the area. The Omaha Police Department will use them to monitor security.
The project cost $720,000 and was paid from the bridge fund. Both Omaha and Council Bluffs will pay $130,000 annually to the fund for finance maintenance, repairs and improvements.
