Man Who Attacked Corrections Officer Headed To Prison

Bruce McGrone apologized to the female Douglas County Corrections officer he brutally attacked just before a judge sentenced him to three years in prison.

McGrone was also given six months for drug possession. The assault came as McGrone was waiting in line for medicine. Corrections Officer Stacie Wilkins says she struggled with McGrone for five minutes and he pulled out some of her hair.

"I don't fully remember because I hit the ground," Wilkins says. "From what I was told, he got on top of me and started strangling me."

Another inmate intervened and put a stop to the attack. After Thursday's sentencing Wilkins said, "He wants to go home to his family. I almost didn’t and I did the right thing as a person trying to make it for my family."

Director of Corrections Michael Myers said, "Our officers face danger every day. They come into work each day knowing there could be an outcome that’s detrimental to their physical and emotional health."

With time served McGrone could be released in 21 months.
