Man Dead After Officer Involved Shooting In Bellevue

Bellevue Police say a man is dead after an officer-involved shooting. Officers were called to a home near 29th and Sandra Street, which is just south of Chandler, for a domestic violence investigation around 11:30.

Police say a woman called 911 reporting her significant other was intoxicated, armed with a gun and suicidal. A Bellevue Police spokesman says when officers arrived on the scene, they heard shots fired from the direction of the home.

One officer was able to safely remove the woman from the house. Moments later, police say one officer discharged his firearm, striking the man who they say had a gun.

The man was taken to the University of Nebraska Medical Center where he later died. One officer has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure in cases like this

The identities of the man who died and the officer have not yet been released. The La Vista Police Department is leading the investigation. The Douglas County Crime Lab is also assisting.
