An Omaha Police Bicycle Patrol officer is recovering after she was struck by a vehicle outside TD Ameritrade during last night's College World Series game.
Police say a 2010 Hyundai Accent was northbound on 13th Street approaching Cass Street when the vehicle swerved around a stopped vehicle waiting at the red light. The driver then went over the raised median and struck the bicycle officer, who was also waiting for the red light.
After the collision, the car continued through the intersection and went through the red light. Police stopped 26 year old Breanna Mickels a block away at 13th and Mike Fahey. Officer Romina Perez suffered knee and back pain but will be okay.
Mickels was booked at Douglas County Corrections for DUI, running a red light, reckless driving, no proof of financial responsibility, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and possession of marijuana 1 oz or less.
Police say Mickels faces additional charges because she had an improperly restrained infant in her vehicle.
