PAPILLION, Nebraska - Now that the new Facebook data center in Papillion is online and serving information, the tech giant is giving back to the community.
Ground was broken on the data center in 2017, and this week Facebook announced it is up and running.
Facebook says it is partnering with the Papillion-La Vista Schools Foundation to invest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education at two high schools.
In a post on its Papillion Data Center Facebook page, Facebook says:
From the beginning, we have committed to being an active part of the community and investing in its long term vitality. We are proud to partner with the Papillion - La Vista Schools Foundation in investing in STEM education at the Papillion La Vista and Papillion La Vista South High Schools. This skilled and technical trades program will strengthen STEM education at these schools and will benefit over 1,000 local students in just the first year. This fall, we will also launch our Community Action Grants program. This program provides funding to schools and qualified organizations who support innovative projects and programs including those improving STEM education.
Facebook says its data centers use 80% less water than the average data center and are supported by 100% renewable energy.
The new Papillion data center is being completely powered by the Rattlesnake Creek wind farm in Dixon County.
