Trash Talk Continues As Mayor Stothert Wants Answers From City Council

Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert sent a letter to the Omaha City Council asking them to make some decisions on trash collection.

Mayor Stothert is requesting four things from the city regarding the next solid waste contract. Those items include what service the City Council wants, what company, how to pay for out and how will they reach a consensus on a decision.

The City Council rejected Mayor Stothert’s pick, FCC Environmental at last week's meeting.

This decision will need to be made soon as it could take up to 16 months for operations to be set up. That includes establishing a facility and getting the necessary equipment. Mayor Stothert also informed the Council that many residents were upset at last week's delays. Between June 3rd and June 9th, the City received more 2,598 complaints about missed collections.

Two companies have bid on the job, FCC Environmental and West Central Sanitation. Both extended their bids by 60 days.
