On the 75th anniversary of D-Day, watch Steven Spielberg discuss the opening of 'Saving Private Ryan', considered by most to be the most accurate and most epic war scene in film history. He discusses how he wanted to depict the battle of Omaha Beach, but was worried it would be too problematic for movie goers.
He also talks about educating people about what war was really like. And, I was in junior high when this movie came out, it was on TV one night, I remember it being some special occasion and the movie was uncensored. It re-wired my brain into what war actually is. I was a kid, a young adult. I knew war was awful, I knew it was bloody. It made me realize the stakes of war, the randomness of it. It made me want to be worthy of that sacrifice.
