Snake In The Grass In North Omaha

A north Omaha resident was getting ready to mow the yard this morning and found an unwelcome visitor. That person called the police after seeing a large snake. The Nebraska Humane Society determined it was a Ball Python.

"These snakes are relatively harmless to people and are legal to keep as pets in Omaha," Kelli Brown, NHS Director of Field Operations told 6 News. "Looks like this one may have just escaped from a home nearby and went exploring in yards."

Officers with the Humane Society say the snake appears to have a slight neurological issue. They are not sure if the snake was injured somehow while out captivity.

Nebraska Humane Society is caring for the snake and hopes the owner steps forward.
