On Thursday, Governor Pete Ricketts vetoed a bill that would allow Omaha area cities to form a new regional transit authority. His main concern was that the authority could raise property taxes without a vote of the people.
On Friday, lawmakers voted 33-16 to override Governor Ricketts' veto.
Senator Justin Wayne introduced the legislation and says it is designed to expand the area's transit system to better serve those who don't have vehicles. Wayne says this will help grow and stimulate the economy by helping more people with a commute to a job.
