Highway 34 Back Under Water - Work Will Have To Wait

The Iowa Department of Transportation spent the week on Highway 34 between I-29 and Nebraska trying to prevent further damage from flooding.

Highway 34 is closed for a second time since March. Crews now are dumping gravel to reinforce the shoulder of the road.

Water levels rose 15 inches in a 13 hour window on Thursday. That extra water has crews on hold.

"So now there's going to be a delay until they can get access and start again so I think it's going to be several weeks." Mills County Emergency Management Director Larry Hurst told 6 News.

One homeowner nearby had been working on his home that was flooded two months ago. Now he is back to square one as the house is under water.
