More than 500 Omaha Public School District leaders met to talk about the new safety measures for all schools in the district.
On Thursday, they gathered at a safety summit to unveil their new protocols. Whether it is a verbal threat from a child toward staff or another student to a child bringing a weapon to school, everyone will follow the same set of instructions.
Teachers, custodians, cafeteria staff to teachers and office staff, all will act as a team. Everyone will go through training and learn how to be on the same page in case there is a threat.
School leaders say no threat inside a building is too small.
District officials will not discuss the protocols in place for safety reasons but want the community to know they have a proactive plan in place to protect students, teachers and staff.
Changes will go into effect this fall.
