Omaha City Council Bans The Bag

The Omaha City Council Voted today voted 4-3 and approved a ban on plastic grocery bags in the city. This will go into effect in January of 2022.

The Council had been considering the issue for three years and Councilman Pete Festersen introduced the ban earlier this year.

There was a public hearing prior to the Council's decision. That public comment period took several hours with many people of all ages speaking both for and against the ban. The biggest issue for supporters was to cut down on the amount of plastic used to save our environment and to reduce litter.
