Public Hearing On Omaha's Plastic Bag Ban Tuesday

Omaha residents will have a chance to have their say about a proposed plastic bag ban at Tuesday's City Council meeting.

Mayor Jean Stothert Monday sent a letter to the City Council asking them to hold off on voting on the ordinance. The letter stated that she is opposes the idea and would rather see a litter study.

This after a report by EPA that shows plastic bags make up 0.3% of solid waste and that 90% of discarded bags are in a size that exempts them from the ordnance. Mayor Stothert is also concerned that retailers could no longer accept bags to be recycled.
