The entertainment world is buzzing today with the news that the newest Batman is Robert Pattinson. Yes, the guy from 'Twilight'.
On the surface, a very bizarre casting announcement. Pattinson doesn't "look" like a Batman. The latest Batman film, titled "The Batman" has been in limbo for quite some time after it was revealed that star (and potential director of the movie) Ben Affleck dropped out. New director Matthew Reeves has stepped in and did a massive re-write of the story.
I tend to trust Reeves. He did a marvelous job with the "Planet of the Apes" trilogy. If you never saw them, they're really solid. Worth the watch, I loved all three chapters. This new Batman movie is said to be more of a detective film than the previous iterations of the Caped Crusader. The characters comic book roots are a noir-style detective, and it's a twist we haven't seen before from the character on the big screen.
My thoughts on Pattinson specifically being announced are this: He had to have CRUSHED it in the audition process, right? Blown everyone away, right? Because the studio knows we hate every Batman you give us...at first. They had to have known we'd lose our everloving minds over this reveal. Leading me to believe the studio, the director, everyone is SURE this is the guy. Pattinson has been working small, indie movies as of late. And his work has VASTLY improved if you haven't seen Pattinson since The Twilight Saga. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. For now. But it does lower my expectations, for sure. What do you think of the new Batman?
