UPDATE Chance of severe storms this weekend NEBRASKA IOWA MAPS

DES MOINES, Iowa - Central Nebraska is in the bulls eye for severe storms into the weekend, while the rest of the region, from Nebraska through Iowa, and into Illinois is at lower risk, but still likely to see rain or a storm.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Brooke Hagenhoff tells our newsroom that the warmer weather will bring with it the increased risk of rain and storms.

"But, it won't be a total wash out where it'll rain all day and night all weekend, we'll certainly have some dry periods in there." She says. "But make sure you have a way of getting severe weather information, on your phone or on the radio."

The greatest chance for severe storms is Friday afternoon into Friday night. Large hail and damaging wind gusts will be the main severe threats. Brief heavy rainfall is also expected.

But, Hagenhoff says, additional severe storm chances are possible into Saturday and Saturday night.
