Archdiocese Distributes More Than $230K For Flood Relief

The Archdiocese of Omaha distributed more than $230,000 last Thursday to help offset the damage caused from catastrophic flooding that swept through northeast Nebraska in March.

Archbishop George J. Lucas asked the archdiocese’s 138 parishes to hold a special collection for flood relief efforts during weekend Masses March 23-24. More than $470,000 was raised.

“The generous response of so many is another example of how mercy is received and lived in the archdiocese,” Archbishop Lucas says.

After evaluating the short and long-term rebuilding and recovery needs in their communities, pastors requested funds to help restore youth soccer fields, replace lost or damaged property and assist with temporary shelter.

The archdiocese continues to receive flood relief requests and plans to distribute the remaining funds in the coming weeks.
