Lincoln Police have arrested a 30-year-old man who led officers on a brief pursuit in a stolen car. Captain Jake Dilsaver says officers tried to stop the vehicle early Wednesday morning, but the driver took off and a few moments later abruptly parked the car.
Dilsaver says Damingo Burks took off running and a police dog was used to help track him. Burks was found hiding in a stairwell to an apartment building a short distance away.
Police found several shotgun ammunition rounds in the vehicle Burks was driving. Dilsaver says Burks had a shotgun round in his pocket and a sawed-off short shotgun near him. Burks also had a makeshift holster for it on his leg, and there was a live shotgun round in the shotgun.
Dilsaver said the vehicle Burks was driving had been reported stolen in Omaha.
Police arrested Burks on a federal arrest warrant and in suspicion of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person because he is a convicted felon; possession of a short shotgun; possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony; operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest; and theft by receiving stolen property.
Two other people in the vehicle were interviewed and released.
