Alcohol Blamed On Crash That Injured Two Men

Omaha police say a drunk driving crash late Tuesday night injured two people near JFK and Q street. Investigators say just before midnight a speeding car was southbound on 24th Street when it struck the curb, left the road and hit a chain link fence.

The car then rolled down a grass embankment and came to rest on the shoulder of northbound JFK. Witnesses and a Omaha Police K9 officer assisted the injured men. Paramedics transported the driver to Nebraska Medicine for treatment of a serious back injury. 23 year old Jose Miguel-Garcia of Bellevue was cited for DUI and negligent driving.

Police say the intoxicated passenger, Kevin Cruz-Hernandez of Omaha, was transported to the hospital for minor injuries. The crash happened just minutes before his 21 birthday.

Police say during the crash a part of the chain link fence struck a vehicle that was northbound on JFK. No one in that vehicle was injured.
