A sign that spring has arrived. The opening of the Omaha Farmers Market is Saturday, May 4th in the Old Market and Sunday, May 5th, at Aksarben Village.
An estimated 140 local vendors will have farm-fresh and locally grown produce. Project Manager Kylie Vonnahme tells NewsRadio 1110 KFAB that it may be a bit early in the season for many of your garden favorites but tables will be full of fresh pickings. She says, "As for produce, what you will find is your early crops like lettuce, herbs, radishes, asparagus and things of that nature. We do have some vendors that that grow a lot of their stuff in greenhouses so you will see some tomatoes. We also have a lot of meat vendors, cheese vendors, and crafts, a little bit of everything.”

A Zero Waste Station at the Aksarben Village location, courtesy of Hillside Solutions & Aksarben Village. Market-goers will have the opportunity to recycle or compost just about any waste that is produced while at the Farmer’s Market.
Farmer’s Market Tours with The Big Garden and Nebraska Extension. The Big Garden will also set up their new mobile kitchen on select market dates. The mobile kitchen will provide a space for cooking demonstrations with produce purchased at the market.
Double Up Food Buck (DUFB) Match Program - A partnership with Nebraska Department of Agriculture and Nebraska Extension has given OFM the opportunity to offer the DUFB Program, allowing Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program/Electronic Benefits Transfer (SNAP/EBT) users an additional $20 in matching funds to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs. This match program is supported by The Sherwood Foundation.
More than 140 unique season vendors offering locally grown produce, flowers, herbs, bedding plants, meats, cheeses, breads, jams, jellies, specialty items (including crafts) and more.
16 new season vendors include Little Mountain Ranch & Garden, Carter & Rye, Thunder Moon Farm, The Omaha Bakery, Hardy Coffee, and Apothecuryous.

The Old Market location on Saturday is open from 8 a.m. until 12:30. The Sunday Aksarben Village location runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It runs through October 13th.
