Mayor Stothert Responds To Recall Attempt

There is an effort to recall Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert. A group on Facebook are heading the effort. The reasons listed for the recall include neglect of city streets, mismanaging the police and fire departments and failing to keep her promise to repeal the restaurant tax.

Mayor Stothert responded in a letter to Brian Kruse, Douglas County Election Commissioner on Monday. It read:

"Omaha is safe, economical strong and well-managed. We have one of the best police and fire departments anywhere; historic high number of sworn police officers, and the lowest number of homicides in 13 years. I have lowered property tax rates, tripled road repair funding, budgeted $320 million for new road infrastructure. We operate ethically, transparently and solicit input from taxpayers."

NewsRadio 1110 KFAB had earlier talked to Commissioner Kruse who stated petition organizers have 30 days to collect more than 34,800 valid signatures in order to place the issue on a ballot for a special vote.
