Work is expected to start soon on a 1,200 foot levee breach sough of highway 34 in Mills County. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced Friday that the $6 million contract was awarded to Western Contracting of Sioux City, Iowa.
Levee L611-614 is one of four breaches that were prioritized for repairs to protect critical infrastructures. The Corps is hopeful fixing the levee will protect construction to fix Highway 34 and I-29.
Once the work started it is estimated to take 45 days to complete.
