An April Fool's joke turns to reality tonight as Werner Park hosts Omaha Potholes night. Omaha Storm Chasers General Manager Martie Cordaro says players and coaches will wear special "Omaha Potholes" gear during batting practice.
Those items will then be auctioned off to benefit local little leagues fields damaged by the flooding. The team has been selling t-shirts and caps as they poke fun of Omaha's street problems that began this winter. "We wanted to look at this in true minor league fashion," Cordaro says. "It's fun, it's tongue-in-cheek, but also how can we do some good community efforts.
A limited number of Omaha Potholes jerseys will also be available at Werner Park for $50, with 100% of net proceeds going to Chasers charities for flood relief.
Cordaro says more than 600 tickets are being given to employees of fourteen metro area public works departments "as a thank you for their hard work working in snow and ice during winter, and now repairing roads in the spring, to ensure the public's safety."
You will be able to purchase pot hole items at the game with proceeds going to help repair Bellevue and DC West Youth Sports little league fields that were damaged by the floods last month.
Cordaro says the first one-thousand fans entering the park will receive a "spare tire" donut from Krispy Kreme. In addition, special concessions items will be available, including Rocky Road Ice Cream with fans given shovels to use as spoons, as well as "Pothole Philly" Sandwiches featuring pot roast. Ale Storm beer will also be renamed Pothole Chasers Ale for the contest.
Gates open at 5:30 and first pitch is set for 6:35
