NSP Inmate Dies After Rushed To Hospital Monday Morning

A 50 year old inmate died shortly after 11 a.m. Monday, April 15th at Bryan Medical Center - West.Whitney Hopkins was assigned to the Nebraska State Penitentiary and was moved to the Diagnostic and Evaluation Center on April 10th.He was taken to the hospital this morning due to a medical condition.

Hopkins was serving a nine year sentence for charges in Gage County. He was convicted of possession and distribution of a controlled substance, child abuse and tampering with a witness.

While the cause of death has not been determined, Hopkins was being treated for a medical condition. As is the case whenever an inmate dies in the custody of the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services, a grand jury will conduct an investigation
