Driver Pulled From Burning Jeep After Crash

An Omaha man who police say was driving drunk was injured when his Jeep burst into flames after it crashed near 50th and Ames early Sunday morning. Officers responded to the crash at 50th and Ames just before 4 a.m.

According to investigators, a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling west when it left the roadway, struck a fire hydrant, continued back onto Ames Ave., drifted across the raised median into eastbound traffic and left the roadway on the other side.

After leaving the road, the Jeep struck a tree and caught on fire. Several witnesses pulled the driver from the burning vehicle. 22 year old Dominick Davis of Omaha was taken to the hospital to be treated for facial fractures.

He was cited for DUI, negligent driving, colliding with a fixed object and not wearing a seatbelt.
