A 45 year old Lincoln man has been cited for starting a fire at his apartment complex near 21st and J Street Saturday night.
Richard Murray told investigators he took a rug to the balcony and burnt the frayed edges to stop the rug from shedding. He set the rug down and went back inside.
A few minutes later, he discovered the balcony was on fire and the complex was engulfed a short time later. The fire caused an estimated $250,000 in damage to the structure. Murray was cited for negligent burning.
