The Nebraska Department of Corrections says an inmate at the Diagnostic and Evaluation Center in Lincoln assaulted a staff member on Monday, resulting in serious injuries.
The incident happened just after 9:30 p.m. The inmate hit the staff member in the upper body and head several times with a closed fist. Responding staff members were able to assist the injured staff member in restraining the inmate.
The injured staff member was seen by a doctor on Tuesday and was diagnosed with a fractured jaw. The incident will be investigated with findings provided to the county attorney for determination of criminal prosecution. The NDCS disciplinary process will be utilized with sanctions, such as loss of good time, applied according to the rules and regulations.
