After last year's disappointment of having to postpone the Royals first game in Omaha in 19 years, Omaha Storm Chasers General Manager Martie Cordaro says they are really anxious to host Monday's game between the two teams at Werner Park.
"We want to get this game in. We want fans in the metro to be able to see the Royals, fans who may not have the time to go to Kansas City," Cordaro says. "There are a lot of former Storm Chasers that are on the Royals squad. It's going to be great to welcome Whit Merrifield and all of them back."
After a winter full of snow, ice and cold and the recent flooding Cordaro says the game comes at a good time.
"It's been a pretty challenging winter on everybody, and then recently the flooding. We're hoping that baseball in general can be a sign that spring is coming and let's move forward the best we can."
Cordaro says the field was buried in several feet of snow just two weeks ago. After a lot of hard work by the grounds crew, the field is in good shape and ready for play on Monday. He says there are some final touch-ups being done to get the ballpark ready.
"We have bunting to put up and last minute cleaning, cup holders and final signage items." The highly anticipated game is a sell out, only a few limited standing room only tickets are available. Gates open at 4:00 and first pitch is 6:05.
