As rain, snow melt and ice jams combine to create a potential for flooding Sarpy County Board Chair Don Kelly has issued an emergency declaration for the entire county.
People who live in low-lying areas of the county are advised to pack an emergency bag with clothing, medicine and emergency supplies along with extra batteries and phone chargers. Residents are also advised travel by hard-surfaced roads if able and to not disregard traffic blocking barriers.
Make arrangements to stay with family or friends. Flood warnings are in effect for the Missouri River until 6 am on March 18 and on the Platte River until 10 pm that night.
Flood waters have crossed a number of roads throughout the county. Officials advise everyone to not drive around barricades or through water over the road.
