The City of Omaha says it has completed plowing on major and secondary streets following last Saturday's blizzard. That means property owners now have 24 hours to clear sidewalks of snow and ice from sidewalks.
The end of operations was declared at 6:00 am Wednesday, meaning sidewalks are required to be cleared by 6:00 am Thursday.
The city doesn't go out looking for sidewalks that haven't been scooped. Complaints reported to the city will be inspected, and if found to be in violation, the owner or resident will be issued a letter and given the opportunity to clear the sidewalk. The letter is left in a door hanger at the property to avoid delays in receiving the information.
Owners that do not comply with the notice of violation will be assessed for the cost of cleanup on their property. Meanwhile, the city is still working to clear remaining snow pack and ice.
