Iowa State Trooper Injured In I-29 Crash

An Iowa State Patrol Trooper is recovering following a crash on Interstate 29 Monday morning.

The trooper, 50 year old James Bullington of Council Bluffs, was on the shoulder of the interstate near mile marker 70 to investigate an accident around 10:00.

That's when authorities say a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am attempted to move over to the left lane from the right because Bullington was on the shoulder, but hit a patch of ice. The Pontiac spun out of control, hitting the cruiser.

Officials say the driver of the Pontiac, 25 year old Aaron Schutt of Omaha, complained of pain at the scene but was not transported to the hospital. Trooper Bullington was taken to Bergan Mercy for observation and was held overnight.

The ISP reminds drivers to use caution, as winter is not over yet. The accident is still under investigation and Schutt has not been cited.
