The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is investigating a threat made Thursday via Instagram regarding Alfonza W. Davis Middle School. "Our preliminary review leads us to believe the threat is not credible; however, we are still investigating," Chief Deputy Tom Wheeler said this morning.
Omaha Public Schools sent a statement to staff members and families of school students regarding the threat:
Good Afternoon Davis Middle School Staff and Parents:
We wanted to make you aware of a situation. Yesterday, we were made aware that a student within Omaha Public School was allegedly making threats towards the school on social media. Local law enforcement was immediately contacted to investigate. We continue to cooperate in their investigation.
We take these threats very seriously. We are working with our District Safety Office, our on-site security team and local law enforcement to ensure the safety of our school environment. We are enforcing disciplinary action per our Student Code of Conduct.
This message is being shared to ensure open communication with our staff and families. Please be assured that the safety of students and staff is our top priority. We commend the students who brought the situation to school administration. We appreciate your continued help in guiding our students in the use of good judgment in their actions for their safety and the safety of others.
