Kerrie Orozco Memorial Ballfield Nearing Completion

The finishing touches are being put on a new little league field in north Omaha that is named in honor of fallen police officer Kerrie Orozco.

Parks Director Brook Bench says Kerrie Orozco Memorial Ballfield in Miller Park now has a new scoreboard and foul pole in place. Despite the cold weather the past couple of months he says great progress has been made on the complex, which will feature a turf field, batting cages, press box and bleachers.

"It's going to be one of the nicest little league fields in our area," Bench says. "I would envision, as nice as this field is, there will be kids coming from all over to play on that field. It's just a huge resource I think it's going to be utilized a lot."

Officer Orozco coached youth baseball for PACE, the Police Athletics for Community Engagement, in north Omaha. The field will open in the spring. Orozco was shot and killed in 2015 while pursuing a suspect a few blocks from where the field that bears her name is located.
