More Winter Weather Headed Toward Metro

After up to three inches fell across parts of the metro area on Sunday another storm system is headed our way Monday. WOWT 6 says we may begin to see impacts as early as mid-morning Monday as patchy freezing drizzle begins to develop. By late morning, precipitation should begin to intensify and we will likely see a wintry mix initially, with sleet, freezing rain, and snow all possible for a time.

Precipitation will change over to all snow by mid-afternoon or early evening, with snow continuing into the overnight. Pockets of heavy snow are possible in the evening and overnight hours. Snow should be tapering off by early Tuesday morning. Much of eastern Nebraska will likely see 3-6 inches of snow, with heavier amounts further to the east in central Iowa. Amounts will be lighter to the west and southwest of the metro.

Once the snow moves out Tuesday morning, colder air will push in on breezy northwest winds keeping highs in the 20s. Lows will likely fall into the single digits near and north of I-80. We'll see a break in the active weather pattern on Wednesday with partly cloudy skies and highs near 30.

There will be another chance for snow by Thursday afternoon lasting into early Friday. This will come ahead of another blast of Arctic air that may keep highs on Friday in the teens.
