The University of Nebraska at Omaha's all-time baseball wins leader and a state champion coach has died at the age of 92.
Bob Gates won 464 games as the UNO head baseball coach, won two North Central Conference championships and made the NCAA Division II regionals from 1977-99.
Gates weathered severe budget cuts in the 1980s to keep the program going and re-established it as one of the top programs in the North Central Conference.
Gates also won a state championship in football at Holy Name, his alma mater. While at Holy Name, Gates coached the baseball team to two state championships and the basketball team to three state championships. Gates later served as a football recruiter for Nebraska.
