A Louisville, Nebraska couple is facing felony charges after investigators said they didn't feed their infants enough, resulting in the death of one child.
The Cass County Sheriff's Office says 23 year old David Krutina and 20 year old Kassandra Krutina are the parents of twin daughters, born prematurely at 27 weeks last February.
The twin girls lost a lot of weight once they got home from the hospital after being born premature in February. They were taken to the emergency room four months later, but it was too late for one of the infants.
Investigators say after the twins were discharged from the NICU, there was very little weight gain. On September 1, 2018, one daughter became unresponsive and was rushed to Children's Hospital in Omaha where she died. The other daughter was also admitted to Children's. Both twins were severely malnourished.
Doctors say the second twin survived and is lucky to be alive. She is doing well in the custody of Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services. After an extensive investigation, arrest warrants were obtained.
The couple has bonded out of jail. They have two other children.
