Crews Battle Blaze At Omaha Church

Crews battled a large fire at an Omaha Church Monday evening.

The fire began around 6:00 at the Hope of Glory Church near 33rd and Cuming. Firefighters got the blaze under control in about an hour.

According to Battalion Chief Rob Gottsch there were people in the building at the time who were able to make it out safely and call 911. Smoke could be scene on approach and flames were coming from the roof of the building. According to the church's pastor they have been the building in April 2018.

Authorities say the fire was difficult to fight because of the cold and because the stairs inside the building had burned out, making it difficult to battle it from the inside. Gottsch also said the building didn't have a normal structural shape inside, adding to the complexities of the fire.

No injuries were reported and the fire remains under investigation.
