Lincoln Priest Cited For Giving Alcohol To A Minor

Lincoln Police say a priest has been cited for supplying a minor with booze.

Authorities say on January 9th, 2019, 57 year old Charles Townsend was cited for Furnishing Alcohol to a Minor. Witnesses had reported that Townsend, a Catholic priest, provided alcohol to a 19 year old at a Lincoln home in July of 2017. The teen became intoxicated and was eventually driven home by Townsend.

This citation was part of the collaborative investigation into the Lincoln Catholic Diocesan staff that was announced on September 6th, 2018. The Lincoln Police Department is still actively collaborating with the Lincoln Catholic Diocese, the Lancaster County Attorney, and the Nebraska Attorney General to obtain information about past and present criminal misconduct by diocesan staff.

The Lincoln Police Department say they are strongly committed to providing a voice to all victims and encourage anyone with information to contact LPD Investigator Cockle at 402.441.8980.
