Sarpy County To Hold First Ever Gun And Fireworks Amnesty Day

For the first time ever, the Sarpy County Sheriff's Office will hold a gun, ammo and fireworks amnesty day this weekend.

Captain Dan Shukis tells NewsRadio 1110 KFAB that they will take the items, no questions asked. "Bring in their unwanted or old firearms, ammo and fireworks and we can get rid of that for people safely."

Shukis says the event will be held at the Sheriff's Office located near 84th and Platteview Road. "We'll have the garage door open and people can just drive along side of it. Drop off whatever they have, we'll take it no questions asked, and then we'll destroy it for them."

This won't be your only chance to get rid of the unwanted items though, as Shukis says they want to hold the amnesty day twice a year. "We're looking at doing this event right after the Fourth of July and then right after the first (of the year). So anybody that has fireworks that wants to get rid of them, we can certainly take them and destroy 'em for them."

The event runs from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Sarpy County Sheriff's Office at 8335 Platteview Road Papillion, NE 68046. You can call (402) 593-2288 for more information.
