Omaha Street Crews Ready When Snow Flies

The metro area is bracing for the latest round of winter.  A Winter Weather advisory is in effect from 6:00 Friday night through noon on Saturday.

2-6 inches of snow is possible across the area, with heavier amounts to the south of the metro area. Snow covered roads and limited visibilities could make travel difficult and drivers are urged to use caution.

In Omaha, city crews are prepared to tackle the storm.  Street Maintenance Engineer Austin Rowser tells NewsRadio 1110 KFAB crews have spent Friday pre-treating major streets.  "It prevents a bond from forming between the snow and roadway surface that helps get it off easier with a plow and allows us to use less salt after the fact."

He says they are prepared to hit the streets when the snow starts falling, which could be around 8:00 p.m. "We have roughly 100 trucks that will be in overnight and we'll continue 24 hours until we're finished."

Rowser says they also have 175 contractors standing by ready to hit the residential streets.
