Don Bacon Wants His Pay To Be Withheld During Government Shutdown

A Nebraska Congressman is joining other representatives in requesting that his pay be docked during the partial government shutdown.

In a letter sent Thursday to the Chief Administrative Officer of the House of Representatives, Bacon asked for his pay to be withheld until an agreement to fund the whole government takes effect. "I believe that Members of Congress should be treated the same as all other federal employees who are impacted by a government shutdown."

He continued by saying "Fairness and decency dictates that my pay also be withheld," and that "Congress must act quickly to fund the government, protect our national security, and ensure hardworking men and women across the country receive the pay that they have rightfully earned."

The White House and Senate Democrats continue to argue over funding for a border wall, a disagreement that launched the partial shutdown a week ago.

Many congressional salaries are about $170,000 annually.
