Off-Duty Lincoln Police Officer Twice Legal Limit During Crash

Authorities say an off-duty Lincoln Police officer was over the legal limit when he crashed his vehicle earlier this month.

On Tuesday, Lincoln Police said officer Matthew Brodd, who crashed his vehicle on December 2nd, had a .173 blood alcohol level. Brodd was cited for first offense DUI-aggravated on Monday.

Officials said Brodd was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and is still recovering from his injuries. Lincoln Police said an internal investigation has been ordered and he is not currently working

The single-vehicle accident took place around 4:30 PM near North 45th and Vine Streets, causing damage to Brodd's Toyota Tacoma and a pole. Brodd was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Several witnesses told police Brodd's vehicle fishtailed before striking the traffic pole and estimated that he was driving about 25 MPH before the accident.
