The Douglas County Board of Commissioners approved a $6 million purchase of the MUD headquarters on Tuesday. The commissioners voted six to one to approve the use of the money with Commissioner Mary Ann Borgeson being the lone nay vote.
The city block would be used as an annex of the Douglas County Courthouse, which would house the county attorney's offices, probation services and juvenile court.
The county said in the proposal that they are committed to preserving the building for 50 years, so the building will not be torn down following the purchase.
The purchase still has to be approved by the Omaha City Council and the MUD Board of Directors.
