Volunteers Sought To Place Wreaths On Veterans Graves

In an effort to honor fallen veterans during the holiday season hundreds of volunteers are expected to assist in placing wreaths on their graves at Omaha National Cemetery beginning at 11:00 a.m.

“This wreath laying ceremony helps us continue the mission of maintaining our national cemetery as a national shrine, sacred to the honor and memory of those interred or memorialized here,” said cemetery director Cindy M. Van Bibber.   “It is a wonderful way for the community to come together to pay respect during the holiday season.”

More than 1300 wreaths will be placed. This is the 13th year of Wreaths Across America, a nationwide program which distributes holiday wreaths as a tribute to Veterans laid to rest at VA national cemeteries.

Van Bibber says anyone who wants to volunteer should show up at 11:00.  There will be a memorial service honor the memories of veterans who have died before the wreath laying.    The cemetery is located near 144th and Schram Road in Sarpy County.
